11 Proven Habits of High Performers that will transform your Life and Business

Are you feeling overwhelmed and trying to do it all? Are you looking for ways to raise your game and achieve even more? If so, you're not alone. Achieving great things requires hard work, dedication, and consistency. But it's also essential to have the right habits in place.

Hi, I'm Felecia Etienne, a Certified High-Performance Success Coach and Business and Life Strategist. I help those overwhelmed, stressed-out bosses maximize their time, energy, and productivity so they can be present and intentional with the vital aspects of their life.

In this blog, I’ll share eleven proven habits of high performers that will help you reach your goals. Whether you're just starting out or you've been working on your dream for years, these habits will help take you to the next level. So what are you waiting for?

Start implementing these habits today!

1. High Performers prioritize their health

High performers prioritize their health because they know it's the key to peak performance. They make time for healthy habits, even when they're busy because they know that their bodies are their most valuable asset. When you prioritize your health, you can stay focused and productive, no matter what challenges come your way. Physical and emotional well-being are interconnected, so it's important to address both when you're trying to be your best self. When you're feeling good mentally and physically, you can take on anything that comes your way. So if you want to be a high performer, start by taking care of yourself first.

2. High Performers know patience is a virtue that needs to be nurtured

High performers know significant accomplishments take time and patience. Quitting too early is the number one reason why most people fail. Despite setbacks and failures, top performers know to keep going. Studies have even shown that being patient makes us healthier. You always have a strategic advantage when you are calm instead of stressed out. You can make better decisions. Through activities like meditation and self-reflection, successful people train their level of patience regularly. By practicing patience, you can increase your chances for future success.

3. High Performers are Conscious of Self-Sabotage and Strive to Address It Proactively

High performers are always conscious of the possibility of self-sabotage. They know that even when they feel confident and in control, there is always a little voice inside them that could lead them astray. As a result, they are always on the lookout for signs that they might be headed down the wrong path. High performers can stay on track and achieve their goals by being proactive about self-sabotage. If they see any indications that they are starting to self-sabotage, they immediately take action to address the issue. This may involve seeking support from friends or family, changing their environment, or taking time for themselves.

4. High Performers embrace feedback

Whether positive or negative, high performers embrace feedback as a valuable part of their journey to excellence. High performers know that feedback is essential for growth. They understand that feedback can help them identify their strengths and weaknesses and use it as an opportunity to learn and improve. High performers also know that feedback is not always easy to receive, but they are willing to listen with an open mind and take it to heart. They know that feedback is just one tool in their quest to become the best they can be, and they use it wisely.

5. High performers value their time

High performers know that time is the most important resource they have, next to health. While most people idly scroll through social media or watch TV, high performers use productivity strategies to make the most of their time. They know how to say no to time-wasting activities and appointments and focus on the task that will positively impact them. High performers also use smart time management techniques to keep themselves on track. As a result, they can achieve more in a shorter period of time. If you want to be a high performer, value your time and use it wisely. Don't waste your precious minutes on activities that don't benefit you. Instead, focus on being productive and efficient. These habits will help you make the most of your time and succeed.

6. High performers protect their energy level

Here's the deal when viewing your energy as a resource that needs to be managed and protected. You're more careful about using your energy and who you spend it with. Managing your energy wisely gives you the power to perform at your best and achieve great things. High-performers understand that their energy level is one of the keys to success. High-performers make sure to get enough sleep, exercise, and downtime. They know how to say no to things that would drain them. And they surround themselves with people who inspire them and make them feel good.

7. High-Performers embrace their failure

We have all been there. You put your heart and soul into a project, give it your all, and then fail. It can be a crushing feeling, making you want to give up and never try again. But the truth is failure is an essential part of success. Each time you fail, you learn more about what it takes to succeed. You become more resilient, determined, and aware of your strengths and weaknesses. And over time, these lessons add up and help us to achieve our goals. So next time you face failure, embrace it as a learning opportunity instead of giving up. Use failure to propel you forward on your journey to success.

8. High Performers practice gratitude daily

The attitude of gratitude creates an energy field around us that attracts more things to be grateful for. It's like being a magnet for good. When you focus on what's working in your lives and give thanks, you open the floodgates to receiving more. On the other hand, complaints, resentment, and cynicism close the door to blessings. When you're fixated on what's wrong, you block out what's right. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrational emotions we can feel. When you shift your focus from lack to abundance and think about what you're thankful for, you raise your vibration and open yourself up to receive more of what you want. The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like. When you're in a state of gratitude, you attract more things to be grateful for into your life. In other words, gratitude creates a ripple effect of positivity that can touch everyone around us.

9. High-Perfomance Work in Focus Blocks

There's no question that high-performance work requires focus. When you're working on a project that demands your full attention, you can't afford to be distracted by email notifications, text messages, or other outside stimuli. You can make incredible progress when you focus on your goals and work without distractions. But it's not always easy to sustain that level of focus for long periods of time.

That's why I recommend working in 50-minute blocks, followed by a ten minutes recharge and reset immediately after. Setting a timer and working for 50 minutes straight can minimize distractions and maximize your output. And when the timer buzz, you can take a ten-minute break to recharge. This approach may seem like a small change, but it can significantly affect your productivity. So if you're looking to take your performance to the next level, give this method a try.

10. High Performer thrive on clarity

High performers don't just want clarity; they need it. Without a clear vision and specific goals to focus on, they quickly become bogged down and lose motivation. When everything is up in the air, it's impossible to maintain peak performance. High-performers thrive when there is clarity about what needs to get done and how to do it. They know that to succeed, they need a clear roadmap to follow. This roadmap gives them the confidence to stay focused and keep moving forward, even when things get tough. It also allows them to avoid getting sidetracked by distractions or second-guessing themselves. In short, clarity is essential for high-performers because it provides the foundation they need to stay focused and motivated. Without it, they can't reach their full potential.

11. High performers WIN the morning

As any successful person knows, how you start your day dramatically impacts the rest of your day. High performers know this and set themselves up for success by creating a morning routine that works for them. Whether meditating, exercising, journaling, or reading, high performers know the importance of taking control of their day and not leaving it to chance. High-performers set themselves up for short-term and long-term success by starting their day off right.

An excellent resource for winning the morning is Hal Elrod, author of the bestselling book Miracle Morning, who describes his Life Saver routine as follows:

1. Silence – Spend at least 5 minutes each morning in silence to connect with yourself and God/Source/the Universe, etc.

2. Affirmations – Write down ten affirmations about who you want to be or what you want to have in your life, read them aloud every morning, and believe them as if they're already true.

3. Visualization – Spend a few minutes each morning visualizing your ideal life or specific goals and what it feels like to achieve them.

4. Exercise – Get your body moving each morning with some form of exercise, even if it's just a quick walk around your neighborhood.

5. Scribing – Writing in a journal is a great way to start your day by processing whatever is on your mind and getting it out of your head so you can focus on the present moment.

6. Reading – Spend at least 10 minutes daily reading something that inspires or educates you.

So if you're looking to up your game and perform at a higher level, make sure to start your day off with a morning routine that works for you. You'll be glad you did.
